Visit Fort William on a cruise liner via Loch Linnhe

Arriving in Fort William on a cruise ship or cruise liner would be an amazing experience. Our Highland town is located at the head of Loch Linnhe, a tidal sea-loch with easy access from The Minch and the Atlantic Ocean. The scenery on route is truly superb with mountains which reach down to the sea and Highland glens which cover hundreds of unspoilt countryside.

Our deep sea loch provides relatively sheltered anchoring with a very short distance to shore by tender. The views from Loch Linnhe of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles towers behind For William. We have included a short video showing a cruise ship at anchor on Loch Linnhe while passengers disembark for their short journey to the Town Pier.

Facilities in Fort William include two shore access locations - one at Fort William Pontoons, located at the West End car park which provides immediate access to the High Street for cruise ship tenders. There's a large car park where coaches can be parked and there are toilets nearby. The other access from Loch Linnhe is at the entrance to the Caledonian Canal where another pontoon facility allows people to get ashore in Corpach.



Fort William restaurants, cafes and hotels offer a wide range of dining options for lunch or dinner and our local specialised shops provide an opportunity to buy some unique gifts. Nearby there are many historical places and scenic locations for half-day and full-day trips. There are also many local businesses who can provide outdoor leisure activities including golf, water-sports, wildlife trips, and mountain guiding. Fort William and the surrounding area has many good visitor centres including Nevis Range Mountain Gondola, the Ben Nevis Distillery and Clan Cameron Museum at Achnacarry Castle, NTS Glenfinnan any many more.

The video shows the cruise ship Ocean Countess in Loch Linnhe filmed from the world famous paddle steamer Waverley which was visiting Fort William on the same day. The video also provides a brief guide to just a small number of things passengers can see and do when visiting our local area for the day. Thomas Telford Corpach Marina Ltd
If you are planning a visit to Fort William by sea be sure to book a berth at Thomas Telford Corpach Marina at the entrance to the Caledonian Canal. Our marina has 45 sheltered berths with fresh water and electricity. Ashore we have first class toilets and shower facilities and a small coffee shop. Close by are shops and pubs with regular transport into Fort William. Our marina is community owned and managed and is not directly involved with the Caledonian Canal. An Cafaidh Mara An Cafaidh Mara is our new coffee shop at the entrance to the Canal within our marina facilities building, open to customers seven days a week.  Check out their social media. Book a berth or slipway use If you are bringing a boat to Fort William we have a sheltered all weather slipway within the marina for launching and car parking of cars and trailers. Book online to launch your boat in Loch Linnhe. You can get to the marina by road along A82/A830 or by mailing train - Corpach Station is 100 metres from the marina.
