Glencoe is very easy to get to as it is on the main A82 route between Glasgow in the south and Fort William and Inverness in the north. So if you are planning to travel to Glencoe, Kinlochleven, Onich and the Appin area of the west Highlands we hope you find this page helpful. When traveling from overseas, may travelers find holiday insurance provide them an additional layer of piece of mind.

Travel to Glencoe by road
If you are travelling from the south, the road system is straightforward with Glencoe roughly 80 miles north of Glasgow. If you not in a hurry, allow three hours for a feast of scenery along the way.

ROAD SAFETY
The road is very old and narrow in many sections and due for a major upgrade, so please drive carefully and keep your eyes on the traffic coming towards you. Use the lay-byes to pull-over and allow faster traffic to get past you. If not, someone will cause a very serious accident. To help you understand the problem, we have produced a page of information for driving safely in the Highlands.

There is a regular timetabled bus service operated all year round by CityLink which also has a convenient stance at Glasgow Airport for travellers coming into Scotland by air. You can find the Glasgow to Fort William bus timetable here.

Travel by train to Glencoe
There is a train service to Fort William but not to Glencoe. This is due to the mountainous topography and the route of the railway. You can still get to the Glencoe area by train from Glasgow to Fort William and then bus or taxi to Glencoe - or you can rent a car in Fort William from several local businesses. The train service is operated by First ScotRail and includes an excellent sleeper service from London. You can visit the First ScotRail website for more information
