Inverie on the shores of Loch Nevis

Inverie is one of Lochaber's more remote communities lying along the shore of Loch Nevis, a little north of Mallaig. The Old Forge Pub is a must do.

Knoydart truly is in the wilderness – accessible only by boat from Mallaig or a 20 mile hike over the mountains. A fantastic place for walking or hiking or cycling, Knoydart is a haven from the bustle of life. The Knoydart estate was purchased by the community in 1999, and there has been some careful development since then. They have their own hydro scheme, bunkhouse and deer estate.
The Old Forge in the village of Inverie is the most remote pub in Britain. It offers moorings for visiting yachts as well as a great spread of fresh seafood and real ales. Be warned that there can be some fantastic music here too! Also in and around the village is an array of accommodation to suit most tastes.
If you would like to visit Inverie you can do so by walking over the hills, or taking the ferry from Mallaig operated by Western Isles Cruises - the trip out of Mallaig and into Loch Nevis is worth taking just for the experience.
